I want to use micro guides on a 11'-6" noodle rod. It will use an open faced spinning reel. I want the smallest guide size to be size 4. From the reel I want to use a size 10, size 8, size 6, size 5, and from there on size 4 to the tip top. So do I use all the size 4's with a spacing of 4" each to the tip top?
Is this a good starting point? I usually use the story board method. but, it seems that the typical number of guides on a open faced spinning rod ((11-12 guides) does not apply with mini, or micro guides which seem to require more. Yet, I will string up the rod to see the results before wrapping all of those guides. I want the noodle rod to be able to cast the longest distance possible using 6 pound mono. Thanks for your consideration. Re: Post question

I don't think you want to say "I want the smallest size guide to be a size 4." You have to say, "I want to use the smallest guides that will pass my line and any needed connections." Then let the line and connections dictate what sizes you can use.
You don't nee to use as many sizes as you list. Let's assume for a minute that you can use size 4's and that starting with a size 10 is appropriate. You can simply go 10 - 8 - and then as many 4's as you require for adequate stress distribution. I would set up the rod with progressive spacing (4" between all guides will result in you having more guides than you really need, which is extra weight that degrades performance. Assuming your reel will feed line from underneath the rod, you won't need to increase the number of guides to keep the line off the blank. If you use a baitcaster, of course, you will need to add a few extra guides due to the micros sitting so low to the rod. ................. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
