I saw a program on TV (Science Channel / How it's Made) about making jewelry from heather branches which are dyed; soaked in resin; heated then sliced into slabs to create cabochon "gems". My (and Lana's) first reaction was: Rod handles and trim rings. I've written to them asking about pricing for uncut blocks. Here's a link about the process:

Wow!!
Those colors are outrageous! I'd be very interested if it's cost effective. Re: Heather Gems / Heather Jewelry

Hi Ken,
That's some great looking stuff and I'm sure you and Lana as well as a few others could do some outstanding work with it. If you get to try some could you let us know how they sand as they could make some interesting and decorative inlays in cork. ESFNEM Col Port Kembla, NSW Australia Edited 1 time(s). Sorry - response pasted below:
Hi I am sorry but we do not sell the raw material to anyone as the process is time consuming and quite difficult that we need all the raw material for our wholesale business. We sell to thousands of shops throughout the world. We also want to keep the heather items exclusive to heathergems.
