Hey all just a quick FYI. I have been experimenting with Floriani thread I buy from a local sewing shop with great results. I was worried about a possible silicone coating etc however the people there assured me there was non used. So I bought a spool and gave it a whirl. Seems to work very well.

Good thing for me is the store is really close and they have MANY MANY colors to chose from. Plus the amount you get vs the price you pay is awesome.

Just thought I would throw that out there in case anyone happens to be in a bind and need a quik fix.

I've used it successfully in the same wrap with Madera. Covered it with Threadmaster and ChromaSeal. Lots of colors and shades at a local sewing machine store. I'm going to stay with Madera but I will not hesitate to use it in a pinch.

I have never used any embroidery thread, Madera or Floriani. I am assuming it is thinner than size A? Much more difficult to work with?
Do you use it just for butt wraps or for guide wraps as well? Thanks, Steven

Looks to be about the same as "A" to me.

Hi Steven,
I've been using Madeira for guide and butt wraps for a number of years without any problems. It's slightly smaller than "a" thread and needs a bit more tension as well as a few coats of cp to overcome the silicon issue. Once you get used to it it's fine and the colour choices are outstanding.

I've never hand any guides come loose or any other issues and I've even used it on a couple of game rods, double bound, but they haven't had a lot of use to date. I've used it on a lot of rods, mainly light to medium inshore and beach rods. Some of these have had extensive use and no problems so far, about five years. I don't think there's any stregth issue as it seems to have a similar strength to other "a" threads to the bit of testing I did.

Hi, Col. That's good to hear. I've got a piece of blank wrapped with different colours of madeira with finish on that i show to customers, some have asked for it on their guides, and i've always told them you can only have it on underwraps as it was sewing thread and not strong enough for guide wraps, but from what youve told me ill have to give it a try. Probably build a rod for myself first and put it to the test. Thanks for the kind words about my weaves; Steve.
