We had a really great time today. It was fantastic to see folks that had never turned a piece of wood, making grips, seat inserts, etc. Morris has a real knack for teaching the craft and not a single person here today left without discovering their ability to turn these items. In fact, by the end of the day, all the work being turned out was top notch. Everybody had a lathe and every body got to turn for several hours.

Morris also spent a good deal time hitting on all the little tips and tricks that make turning easier and more run. For instance - how to sharpen, how to sand, how to work acrylic. Fantastic. Really a good time. You could do as well over a year making mistakes and learning what not to do, but in a few hours Morris had created a half dozen very competent new wood turners.

I had a great time. Morris taught us how to dance with our lathes, make things round, and do shop math. Not including our instruction, we practiced turning for 5+ hours. We turned rod handles in a completely different way than I anticipated -- so simple. Great tips and advice, too, on bevels and sharpening. Lots of pine, poplar, cherry, and mahogany shavings on the floor by the end of the day. Thanks for coordinating, Tom. I posted some pics.
