I build rods primarily for myself, but occassionally for friends and family as well. Walleyes are the species of choice for these guys and I have had several requests for spinning rods for jigging with 1/4 oz. to 1/2 oz jigs that are quite short (5'6" to 6'). They also want a fast to extra-fast action of medium power. Sensitivity is also important so a decent graphite blank is important I am having a devil of a time coming up with options that fit these criteria as most of the blanks fall into the 6'6" range and cutting a foot off of them would obviously change the action significantly. I am most familiar with MHX and St. Croix blanks, but would consider anything at this point. Does anyone have any suggestions for me, or am I seeking the impossible? Thanks Re: Short walleye jigging rod blank suggestion

3C62MXF, 4S59MXF, 4S510MXF- any of them would be great for your application.

I just build't a Batson XSW62MX for my son. It is an awesome rod 6'2" Med 3/16 to 5/8 extra fast. I would think you could cut a couple of inches off the butt. But it is a great jigging rod the way it is. Re: Short walleye jigging rod blank suggestion

The St Croix 4S510MXF is one of my favorite rods. I very rarely go fishing without it. Re: Short walleye jigging rod blank suggestion

Bob,
The critical part of the rod that is used when walleye fishing is the first two feet of the rod. In particular, the first 3-5 inches of the rod. ----------- On the other hand, there are lots of 6' Batson, St. Croix and MHX blanks in the 6 foot length that exactly meet your needs, so you really shouldn't have to do any trimming with the appropriate blank selection. How about the MHX CS722? It's listed as rated for 1/4-1/2ounce, fast action, medium power, from what you've told us, that seems like a dead ringer for you. Re: Short walleye jigging rod blank suggestion

Thanks for the suggestions. Each of you came up with options that I had overlooked somehow. I think I am going to go with the MHX CS722. All of the blanks would work so now I have a number of choices. As always it will be fun to see how it fishes when all said and done. Thanks again!
