I'm just finishing up a boat rod and noticed that I have a this spot of rod bond that spilled on the top of the blank near the first guide. Can anyone recomend a way to remove it without ruining the original finish on the blank?
Thanks, Jeff Re: rod bond on blank of new build ?

Nope! I've had the same problem and lucky for me I had painted the rod to please my customer. I was able to remove the rod bond and touch up the paint. I make sure since then that I always check several times after using rod bond or other epoxy adhesives to make sure that there is none any where it shouldn't be before it dries so I can get it off with a little rubbing alcohol. Try warming it with a heat gun or hair dryer and then use your fingernail or something that is not sharp to try and scape it off....carefully. Re: rod bond on blank of new build ?

Hi Jeff,
You can also try some isoprophyl on a rag especially after it's been heated and is still soft. Get as much as you can off with Phil's method first then heat again and try the isoprophyl. ESFNEM Col Port Kembla, NSW Australia Re: rod bond on blank of new build ?

Jeff,
If the glue is well cured, it is going to be nearly impossible to remove it. Good luck Roger Re: rod bond on blank of new build ?

Jeff,
Maybe give this a try If you have a power wrapper: after you heat the epoxy take a length of size "D" Nylon and loop it around the rod then pull the two tag ends tight (one in each hand). Then spin the rod at a high speed (don't launch the rod out of wrapper) and move the thread back an forth over the epoxy spot, occasionally moving to a fresh section of thread. I have cleaned up some nasty spots using this method, it works really well cleaning up an area where a guide once was. I will be honest, I have not tried it on Rod Bond but it wont hurt to try it. Brook,
Thanks for the idea. I have never tried that idea, but I expect that it works well. Roger Re: rod bond on blank of new build ?
