using wrap epoxy for bonding epoxy

My brother in law has asked me to repair a few wraps on an older sage fly rod (he is not the original owner) and also re-attach the end cap and threaded portion of an up-lock reel seat to the wood insert. I will have extra epoxy from the thread wrap (wraps are on the different section of rod). Is it ok to use that epoxy for attaching the metal portion of the reel seat to the wood insert or do I want to use a bonding type epoxy?

Hi John,
I'd be using a bonding epoxy especially for the reel seat. Whatever you use make sure you have a water break free surface, ie scuff the bonding areas with a scotchbrite pad. You would be better off to remove the old epoxy prior to scuffing and don't forget the inside of the reel seat. Sounds like it didn't have proper surface prep initially otherwise those bits would not come loose

John, follow Col's instructions, just go to a hardware store and get yourself some 2 part epoxy like Devcon either 5 min or long cure. Wrap finish is not a bonding epoxy.

3 times nope. Wrapping epoxy is actually a casting resin and has much poorer adhesion qualities than rod bond or 5 min liquid epoxy. Make the trip and get the right stuff.
