Fish scale wrap

I am getting bored with simple diamond and chevron wraps. I like the fish scale look. I purchased Billy V's decorative wrap book and am a bit overwhelmed with it even after reading his article in the latest RodMaker magazine. Can someone help me with simple instructions on achieving the fishscale wrap ? Thank you in advance.

If you can find Clemens book Custom Thread Art. From a library or online use it in conjunction with Billy's book. I moved up from simple diamonds and chevrons to a maze. Clemens bok was very helpful with the basics then Billy's book was a lot easier to understand for the setup and actual wrap. Then start wrapping even if your not absolutely sure what your doing. For me once the thread started going on tthe rod things cleared up and I was able to just use the book to verify I was going the right way. I came out with what I thought was a very nice looking wrap. One thing when measuring and marking on the initial setup take your time and mark very accurately.

Break it down into sections - the eye of the fish is a simple diamond, the body is a chevron, as is the tail but with +1 (or more) spacing.

In effect, all these wraps are nothing more than "simple diamonds and chevrons" just done in conjunction with each other.

In my book find the Curved Triangles pattern, that is the fishscale pattern. What is confusing you about the book, and the pattern sheets? You really cannot lay out how to do the patterns any othe rway. Since oyu know the diamonds and chevrons, take a look at those patterns in teh book and see if you cna correlate what you already know, wiht how I lay the pattern out with the arrows. That might help?

If it helps, a scales pattern is, (simply put), a split diamond with a +1 on one side in the progression and done on 6 or 8 axis.

Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it..

Thanks for all the responses and e mails. Finishing up a rod will try it out.
