Buffing out rub mark in Flex Coat
Posted by: Barry Whitehouse (---.adsl.snet.net)

I just finished building a rod, and put the final coat of Flex Coat Lite on the threads two days ago. While looking over the rod today, I accidentally scraped the Flex Coat in one area. Most of the scrape rubbed off with my finger, but a mark remains. The rod is a gift, so I want it to look as good as possible. I know I could put one more coat on, to cover up the mark, but I was wondering if anyone has any tips on buffing out the mark instead. Thanks.

Not sure you can buff it out any easier (or at all) than it would take to apply another coat. Coat today, done tomorrow.

Buffing willl give you more of a semi-gloss cloudier style look. Like Terry stated, put on a fresh coat.

I agree and I have tested the possibilities at least with the most general buffing compounds .....specificly with Maguires products. I use Flex coat light build and did some testing my self, I have found that the final polish is not compatible with the surface of the flex coat or its still to green as we would say in painters terms. I think it has something to do with the flex additive they have in the epoxy itself. Your gonna get that hazy look no matter how hard you try to polish it out. I use the sponge pad method for a buffing pad and I have tried different densities of foam thinking others were to abrasive and still the same results. The one thing I have not tried is a Polish used for buffing plastics but that is another day of free time testing for me. Hope this helps ...best advice is drop another coat very lightly and you good to go ! ...................Unless someone on here has found a compound that will work ! Good day builders!

Ive never tried this but you may try one of the hand glazes you use on an auto finish. it doesnt contain and abrasive, it chemically smooths an auto finish. From my experience its a very mild chemical.

Maybe worth a try on a spare rod and if it seems to not hurt anything give it a try. I know it will do wonders for very light swirl marks etc on an auto finish.
