yes as long as it's not glued in. I do it all the time. Re: changing the insert in a struble reel seat

A few years ago when I started turning my own reel seat inserts I replaced several that we're mounted in Struble nickel silver hardware. You do need to be careful when boiling to remove from the rod. The rod blank and cork grip are at risk, but it can be done.

I forgot to say that the the reel seat is new and hasn't been on a rod yet. Do I use boiling water to loosen the metal from the wood? Re: changing the insert in a struble reel seat

That would be the way I would do it. wrap it in a ziplock bag first, squeeze out the air then boil. It takes awhile but it works. Re: changing the insert in a struble reel seat

Have not done it But maybe drill it so there is less material and the hot water works faster
or even drill out and ream to clean Bill - willierods.com Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
