Epoxy coat over the Sage decal?

Hi all,

I have a Sage Z-Axis blank that I am going to start building soon.
I am going to add a simple thread wrap and trim wraps on either side of the Sage decal, similar to the Sage factory rods.

Should I apply a coat of epoxy finish (Flex Coat high build) over the decal as well as the thread wraps, or is there another product that you would use for coating over the decal? Also, is there any sense to thinning the epoxy with methylated spirits for this purpose?

Thanks

some lke to add a coat of cp over a decal or logo, i prefer to moisten a cloth with a little distilled water and wipe over the decal or logo to remove any grease, then apply finish. I dont recommend you to thin flexcoat with methylated spirits, it will weaken it and make it soft, just use it as it is.

Agree with Steve. CP use is optional, but not needed. Just use the same finish you would use to cover the margin wraps you've applied on either side. The Sage logo is silkscreened (if I remember correctly) so some solvents might attack the paint. Regular finish like Threadmaster, etc is a good choice. Make sure the blank is clean but avoid using alcohol on the logo.

Flexcoat worked fine for me, their logo is fixed there very well. We lost power while I was drying a zxl at night while I was asleep. I was able to remove the flexcoat even after it had hardened for 10hrs without damage to the logo.
