Line cutting transition guide

I have been spiral wrapping minima4 chrome micros one size 5 the rest size 4. One on top one at 180 and then to bottom. I use 12 and 15 pound seagaur invisx and the 180 guide has a groove cut in it other guides are fine. Any ideas what the problem is? If it is the guides which ones will not get cut by the line?

Hi,

Very interesting! I would wrap a new guide in place of the grooved one and see if it happens again. Could it be a bad guide? I don't know. I do know that I have many rods out there with Minima 4 guides and all is well. However the smallest guide I use is a #6.

It's not the spiral - it's the ring on the guide. Try another and see how it holds up.

Hi Charlie,

Am still thinking about your problem. If you replace the guide save the old one. Contact Pac Bay and tell them what happened. They may want to see the damaged guide for engineering reasons.

Charlie,
I had the same problem with the same guides.
I ended up adding one extra guide in the spiral and it took care of the problem. I also backed up the 180 guide to about 165 degrees.

I found that by adding one extra guide much of the stress was taken off of the 180 guide. (moved to 165 degrees)

Take care
Roger

One on top one at 180 and then to bottom. This is a little confusing but just to clarify I believe you mean 90 degrees as there are only 360 degrees in a circle.

If 0 is the top then 180 is the bottom. 90 degrees would be to the left or right. I second rogers idea though. 0-160-180 on out. Bumper guide still around the 90 degree mark.

Disclaimer:
I am making the assumption that you are using the simple spiral method.

0-90-180 is right. I believe I'll try the extra guide in there for now since I have a tounament tomorrow. Its not just one rod its 3. I plan to rewrap wit different guides later any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

Batson ALPS would be my choice.

In a a simple spiral, there would be very little pressure on the bumper guide.

In a single 90-degree transition method, however, there would be considerable pressure on the 90 degree guide. It still shouldn't cut the ring coating, but the pressure would be there.

Mr. Russler,
We most certainly would like to see the guide returned to us. Please send an email to info@fishpacbay.com with your contact info and someone will get with you asap to set up a return as well as discuss the conditions surrounding the failure. Thanks
