Anyone have any info on guide ring coatings - especially TiCH and TiGold. Do they boose performance - either wear resistance or smoothness? Or is it mostly cosmetic?
Thanks, Marc Re: Guide Ring Coatings and Performance

Marc,
In todays world of rod building there are very few issues with any guides - as far as wear and smoothness is concerned, no matter the material or price. Simply put, if there was a wear or smoothness issue with any guide, there would be complaints and the manufacturer would pull the guide from the market. No manufacturer can afford to have anything negative stated about any product or it can cause huge profit losses. Just think about any of your customer specified rod builds. If you have any complaints at all, I am sure that you will bend over backward to resolve any and all issues. Because if you don't the negative press will quickly ruin your reputation as a rod builder and you will no longer have any customers for your rods. Good luck REW Edited 2 time(s). Marc, I just built a fly rod with single foot Pacbay guides with the TiGold plating. I don't know about the performance but the plating is so hard and smooth, I couldn't file the guide feet. I normally file the chrome plated ones, but I had to use wet or dry sandpaper on the TiGold. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
