Decorative Wrap-cost

Can someone give me a ball park number as to how much it might cost to have a decorative wrap done on a fly rod butt section? I would envision it would involve four colors and be about 18 inches in length.

Ir depends what kind of Dec Wrap you are looking for.: a basic diamond or chevron I charge $50, for a complex wrap $150 on a blank that size but that is for an 8" wrap. I try to keep the labot at $30-$50 an hour, that is how I base my prices.

It works out for me if I charge $20 an inch. 18" is a ton of butt wrap, especially on a fly rod. While these are fun to do, they are time consuming and Billy's labor rate is a good measure.

I charge the same as Billy. 18" is going to add quite a bit of weight to that fly rod, especially after the finish is applied.

Thanks for the replies. You have convinced me. I'll restrain myself to eight inches.

David, Do you have any data that shows the weight of a typical butt wrap has any significant effect on any of the performance factors of a fly rod, other than making it a trifle heavier? Or is that just "conventional wisdom?"

Bill,

I'd be more than happy to do the wrap for YOU free of charge. Just my way of giving back, paying forward or what ever one would call it.
call me if you wish. 916-494-1838 or email rcadams1957@msn.com

Bill, I have a bunch of wraps cut off with epoxy from bigger blanks, I'll weigh one. I think they are less than .5oz depending on length and amount of epoxy used.
