Question. Can you apply CP over metallic thread? Does it need CP? Re: CP and mettalic thread

Yes you can apply it over Metallic, and no...it doesn't need it. Re: CP and mettalic thread

Several people viewed my question minutes after I posted. You are the only one to respond. I didn't think about CP and Met tread until I was ready to finish tonite, so THANK YOU>
Interestingly, could not find an wnswer after a thorough search here and another forum as well as reviewing my books. Re: CP and mettalic thread

I always apply CP over metallic thread.
Don't need to but i hate fish eyes and time to time they appear so to prevent that i apply CP. Abraço Nuno Re: CP and mettalic thread

I found that by applying CP it makes no difference in the way the thread turns out. It looks the same with or without. Re: CP and mettalic thread

I agree,
Yes you can apply it over metallics. No it does not need it. Yes I almost always do, especially if I am doing a decorative wrap. It is like a glue and it keeps the threads from separating. Bill Ohio Rod Builders Canton, Ohio Re: CP and mettalic thread

It is not needed for color retention, that is correct. It is however beneficial when using metallic as the guide foot wrap, to coat with CP to keep bubbles to a minimum. Kevin Knox ANGLER'S ENVY CUSTOM RODS QUEEN ANNE, MD 21657 #_#_#_#_# www.anglersenvy.com Re: CP and mettalic thread

It is good to put some thing THIN over metalics to keep the air out of your finish
Weather it be CP or thin finish Bill - willierods.com Re: CP and mettalic thread

Hi, im a new member, this is my first post on the forum. i also like to put a thin coat over metallic thread because of the air issue, and especially if ive used it in a weave to enable me to roll and flatten out any gaps as im sure a lot of weavers do. Re: CP and mettalic thread

Welcome Steve.
Like said, If I have a long metallic wrap I ALWAYS use the thinnest, slowest cureing finish available. CP on metallic = a mess for me. I tried it once, never again, no need for it. DR Re: CP and mettalic thread

I dont know if I'm aloud to voice my opinion on CP, but i would never use it...all it does is stop the epoxy from penetrating the thread. it fills up the thread with a weak watery substance that will never hold a guide properly and you end up with a void in between the blank and the guide underneath the first coat of epoxy......try it out....removing a guide that has CP added underneath the epoxy comes off very easy....because the epoxy cant get a hold on the guide or the blank..
now ill probably get hung for saying that.....sorry..... Re: CP and mettalic thread

Not at all Owen. I completely agree!
However, even with CP the guide wrap will still be strong enough to be just fine. So it's a choice, use or not, I prefer not. DR Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
