Metallic Thread for Guide Wraps?

Anyone using metallic thread for the full guide wraps regularly? Biggest question being - how does it hold up?

Thanks,

Marc

Yes - those that are true thread twisted with nylon or with a nylon core. They hold up fine.

I use metallic for guide wraps and have had no problems, even on well abused crappie stiks that are poked and prodded in brush piles to save that 4o cent jig.I do use the Forhan wrap.

Might be a little harder to work with but I just finished a pair of downrigger rods with metallic and use it a lot of rods.. The break strength is actually higher than Nylon

Metallic works just fine as a primary wrap, as noted. I have rods with plenty of service ... still solid as a rock.

It holds up fine, but I'm curious how many like the look. I think for boat and offshore rods, it's a good look. I don't like it on fly rods though. I see Ron wrapped one for his wife so a little bling for the gals is probably a good thing.

Happy Wraps.

I had a hard time with metallic thread at first . it tends to twist and knot if you're not careful. But it looks really good and will hold up fine. Use your thread tension device properly and it takes care of most problems .

Yep, use it all the time. Pain in the butt to work with, but the wraps are rather sharp.

Maybe I have just gotten used to it, but I find metallic thread easier to wrap with, it is all I ever use. Last weekend I tried using some sliver thread I bought by mistake for trim bands, now that is difficult to work with.

I've used it for all kinds of rods for 16 yrs now. Never had a problem, some of them are still in service. Yes, there is a learning curve but once you get used to it nothing else looks right to you.

I've used some of the HT Halo Metallic threads to wrap guide feet. If the metallic has a core, you'll be fine. The picture below is from a rod we broke fishing for Albacore Tuna back in 08. The rod snapped above the stripper guide and we still managed to land the fish. Guide bent a bit, but the thread held. These 30# Albacore are no slouch in terms of strength

Have also used it for several years with no thread problems
But did one rod a in purple for tournament partner in which the rod sits on the front deck on the same side when not in use and the purple faded to blue on the one side that set up in the sunlight after a couple of years service. But have not had that problem with other rods

Can we update this post? Anyone find a strong product to accomplish this? I too want all metallic and want the best thread available.
