Is it ok to use Acetone to clean syringes? I'm told it leaves no residue behind like some alcohols.
I assume I want to clean syringes if I change between finish types. Unfortunately, I only have 2 syringes at the moment. More on order. Thanks Re: Acetone?

Being such a strong or "hot" solvent, it can cause problems with some plastics. You'd have to test it on a pair and see what it does to them.
There isn't any real need to clean syringes. Just keep one for the resin and one for the hardener. ............ Re: Acetone?

Todd,
Every now and then, if I end up with dried material in the syringe, I will use Xylene to clean the syringe. Xylene is the basic solvent for epoxy resin and hardener. Normally, Xylene does not hurt the syringe material, but as Tom pointed out; always test first. I will use the rounded bottom of a craft stick, as well as a pick to clean out a syringe that has a build up of resin or hardener in the bottom. You can find Xylene in the paint department of any of the big box or hardware stores. Good luck REW Re: Acetone?

Mark your syringes with an A and a B and if you change the type make sure you use the hardener syringe with the Hardener syringe and you should have no problems Bill - willierods.com Re: Acetone?

I think that the easiest, quickest and most accurate method to deal with syringes is drilling a hole in each cap just big enough to tightly fit a syringe tip into. Invert the bottles and draw out the amount of finish you want and squirt into a mixing cup. Stick the syringe back into the cap and draw back an inch or so and place on a shelf until next time. When the bottles run dry take the caps/syringes off and place on new bottle. Never have to clean the syringes and you can't mix them up or lose them. I've been using the same syringes/caps for at least a couple years and NEVER clean them. Quick, easy, no mess, no fuss and consistent, no brainier measurements every time no matter how little you mix. Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: Acetone?

That is why I mark them so I don't get them mixed up As long as you use each with the same hardner no problems Even if you change brands Bill - willierods.com Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
