Interested in knowing anything, anyone can tell me about these X-Glass Blanks. Has anyone tested them to their limits yet.

I am thinking of building a Down Rigging rod for Lake Ontario King Salmon. The average size of these fish is about 25 to 30lbs. I want a rod that will be fully tested with these fish.

What is X-Glass exactly? Is it just fiberglass or is it some type of hybrid between fiberglass and graphite?

The guide set recommended by Mudhole is DBRLC-K-6 and seems more appropriate to a casting rod.

Any suggestions on guides, sizes and quantities would be appreciated.

I have a couple still unbuilt at this stage, they feel like standard fiberglass to me and it's not a bad thing having broken one of my favorite IM6 rods dowrigging at Christmas time.

I downrig for Salmon with both fiberglass and graphite poles and have nothing critical to say about either. I can't explain it exactly, but for me I just like the action/feel of my fiberglass poles, not too mention they have taken a @#$%& kick'in for about 20 years and still work well. They look a little dated but they feel great when a big one is pulling off 200 to 300 yards of line. The problem is they are really old, picked up cheap when I first started and I don't even think I could match them with any of todays blanks. Not because they are better made or of better quality, Probably the opposite, as I recall they were not top of the line when I bought them so many years ago.

I am hoping the MHX might be similiar in feel.

You might also check out the RDR series from Rainshadow. They are designed for downrigging. I use these in Oregon for salmon fishing here.

I have several of them fishing Lake Michigan. So far, no issues and nothing but good reviews. Very similiar to the RDR's, but a little softer action all the way to the butt. The RDR's get a little stiff in the butt area because they have graphite in that area. I am anxiously awaiting a 7' one piece MHX rigger rod, then the series will be complete.

I just got a couple.they feel great but haven't built them yet! Tony has them on Salmon charter/tournament boats and I think was involved with the prototypes. I'm waiting for the 7 foot rigger rods also!!!!

Yep, I got a set of rigger rods (6) sold from my sposnsored tourny boat, converting them to MHX 7' one piece. Might have to hold them until the MHX blanks come to life. They will be worth the wait, I am sure.
