Still waiting for spring to show so yesterday I decided to check a 10wt I bought awhile back and see what it indicates for The Big Picture. I used my spotting scope tripod and a benchrest tripod, a short level with the AA card taped on it, and the wifes hardwood kitchen floor. I made a jig like the illustration and kept everything level and the data seems like - if I can get the terminology right - the upper section will load a 10wt line and it has a really strong butt section". If I am incorrect, please tell me what I do have, thanks.

Tim,
If the tapers are applied correctly, it's common to have a moderate- fast to fast action blank that checks 2 to 3 line weights firmer in the butt section. As long as the tip section shows the correct line weight for casting. This is much preferrable to a rod that casts the line weight specified, but has a weak butt coupled to a stout tip. The rod loads correctly and "feels" fine , but when pushed will result in uncontrolled oscillation of the tip. ( Poor damping ) Eugene Moore Re: My data from "The Big Picture" says . . . .

Thanks Eugene for the reply. And to the others as well. Trust, but verify - Ronald Reagan Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
