Smallmouth Rod?

Will have two opportunities this summer to fish Canadian and Minn lakes that have both smallmouth and largemouth. I have a good trolling, jigging rod for the walleye but I am told we will be casting, from the boat into weed pockets with topwaters, buzz baits and some crank baits for the bass. I would like some recommendations for a 2 pc spin blank for this kind of fishing. Will be using 1000 or 2000 series Shimano reels. Thanks Re: Smallmouth Rod?

All according to the weight of lures being cast, a SJ782-2-MHX or SJ783-2-MHX. Can't go wrong with either of those models. Bob McKamey Mud Hole Custom Tackle bobm@mudhole.com Re: Smallmouth Rod?

I'm with Bob, 2pc limits your options a bit. I mainly build smallie rods and the 783-2 would be my choice.

Steve,
What rod are you using for your walleye jigging rod? A couple rods can cover a lot of different situations, if you choose blanks that compliment each other. If your jigging rod is something like a fast or extra fast rod with a 1/4-5/8oz. lure rating. Perhaps a 1/4-5/8oz. or 1/4-3/4oz. popping blank could serve as a nice compliment for the treble hook/moving lures. Otherwise, it would be hard to go wrong with a 1/4-5/8oz. SB or SJ type blank for a general purpose rod. Joe Re: Smallmouth Rod?

If you aren't dead set on a 2-piece and would consider a 3-piece ... look at the St Croix 2SW70MLF3. It is labeled as an inshore blank, but that doesn't mean it can't be used universally. I love mine and it goes to ponds, lakes, rivers and inshore flats. You can also purchase a matching travel case. Re: Small mouth Rod?

X2 on Joe's comments.
One of your walleye jigging rods will work very well for a small mouth rod. I do it all of the time. Good luck REW Also, the comments about the 783-2 is a good piece of advice. You may already have a 783 in your walleye arsenal. It is a very popular rod for walleye fishing. Re: Smallmouth Rod?

I live in MN and fish the lakes here all the time I have many 782's and you cannot go wrong, if you are going into deep cover a 783. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
