Just curious as to what to use to paint the guide feet after i file them down to sit on rod properly?..tried using a sharpie the last time n it actually bled all the way thru the light blue thread...

Did you CP the thread ?? It will hold the color and not bleed though
With no CP the thread becomes transparent - Try it on one

I think he ment that sharpie ink reacted/disolved with the rod finish and stained the blue thread.

various rod finish reacts with certain inks something to do with the chemicals used in them, i cant help you find one that suits your application.
Usually i dont paint the guide feet at all i just pack/burnish the thread enough so the guide feet doesnt show through the thread.
Like Bill said use cp to help the thread become less transparent.

I have used the oil based model airplane paint, usually black and it seems to work fine.

I second the pack and burnish. But if youre using a standard nylon thread you will need some CP since you will see a color diference from dark to light.

I color them with a black sharpie and apply a coat of CP on the guide foot to seal the marker from bleeding thru.

I use Testors gloss paint marker - black also. Looks and works like a magic marker, but it is paint. I use it to touch up guides and black decals. I apply rod finish directly over it with no problems.
