I have a Seeker Hercules GTS70H, and I have had the blank for a while. It was my first build. I built it, hated it the way it looked, stripped it, and now I have the blank. when i stripped it i damaged a lot of the finish around the guides. I want to take all of the blue finish off. Should i do this? how do i go by doing this? and what do i need to take as a precaution!
Thanks ------------------ Gabe (N.E.R.B.S Mascot) Re: Removing Finish to Make Blank Matte

Don't sand it - that can damage the outer fibers, which are where the strength is.
Scrape it off, or use a mild citrus type stripper. Be advised that altering the blank's finish can and often does void any manufacturer's warranty. ............... Re: Removing Finish to Make Blank Matte

Citrus stripper. Like a peeler type thing? Should I lather it with some DNA first?
Thanks Re: Removing Finish to Make Blank Matte

No. A citrus paint stripper.

I recently stripped an old Garcia Ambassadeur flipping rod. I used the citrus stripper. Coat the rod and let the stripper stay on a good long time (at least 2 hours, but prefereably overnight). Then use a plastc scraper, plastic putty knife, or the edge of a credit card and gently scrape the old paint off. My rod required three applications, but all the paint eventually came off. Don't forget to clean the blank WELL afterwards. I repainted mine but you don's have to. You can clear coat it. Re: Removing Finish to Make Blank Matte

If you are careful you can do it in an hour with a butter knife Bill - willierods.com Re: Removing Finish to Make Blank Matte

I have used a Scotchbrite pad before with great success. You can use different levels of abrasion and get a really nice matte polished type finsh similar to the Loomis IMX or GLX blanks before they were sadly removed from the shelves (I'm still not over it). Try it o nthe butt section first to test. You'll be happy I reckon!! Re: Removing Finish to Make Blank Matte

Hi Gabe,
I just stripped two old blanks a couple weeks ago. Used Citri-strip that i bought at WallyWorld. (saw it at HD also). put it on the blank in 2' sections let sit for 30 minutes to an hour. scrapped it with popcicle stick and then used razer blade (carefully) to clean the tricky stuff. Came out great. I stripped a Glass Rod and a Graphite rod. Very Easy. Grab a cold one and head to the garage. J Scott Re: Removing Finish to Make Blank Matte

In this case I believe "cold one" would refer to pepsi or coke. ;) Strong wraps, calm seas Derek Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
