How tight should the male end be inserted into the female end on a tip over butt 2 pc surf rod BEFORE wrapping the ferrule?
Thanks

Joe,
In addition to Mr. Kirkman's comments, I like to put a layer of waxed paper around the butt section of the blank before inserting it into the tip section for wrapping

I do this for two purposes.
1. The layer of paper has just a bit of give in case the butt section would tend to bind up at all in the tip section after wrapping the tip section.

2. Then, whenever coating the wrap, I always use the layer of wax paper to prevent accidentally gluing the two rod pieces together in case of a finish miscue.

Then, in actual use, the paper is removed for the final fit.

Take care
Roger

I've never used the waxed paper tip; rather using paraffin from a candle to lubricate the blank before inserting.

I will 'borrow' the idea for my next rod. Thanks. C2

when I warp a ferrule of any type or size I use a metal rod or wooden stick wrap with one or more layers of tape [ to fit the hole ] sticks [ chop sticks work fine ] I do this as my work station is short don't have the length as I am a hand wraper it works fine
