Rodbond and EVA

Hi All,

I have only worked with custom cork handles, but I am looking at making some custom EVA grips, and was wondering if Rodbond can be used to glue the EVA pieces together, or is only good for gluing the completed grip to the blank.

Thanks,

Richard

G'Day Richard I can't say if rodbond is OK my thoughts are that it would leave a glue line. I always use contact cement .If you do a search on this subject you will find an enormous amount of information on the subject I'm sure Billy Vivona did a very good post on this a few weeks ago

Hi Baz,

I know that contact cement is usually recomended by the US guys, but we don't have the same brands here is OZ.

What brand contact cement do you use?

Is it available from Bunnings, Mitre 10, etc?

Thanks,

Richard

YOu're going to have to buy other contact cements and see how they work. I just googled weldwood contact cement australia, and see that there isn't much out there, There is a couple of other hoby sites which recommend similar products in the AU, but I hqve no clue how they will work. THe water based Weldwood is no good, only the solvent. Good luck!!

G'day Richard,

I have done a few EVA grips now and have just used the good old Selleys Kwik Grip. Seems to work fine!

Cheers

Jason

Rod Bond will work but will leave a hard edge or seam. You want contact cement.

Richard I use Kwik grip also . I just make sure it's not the gel type as I found it harder to obtain an even coat.

Aica-Aibon is similar product with contact cement, most hardware store in Asia sell them but not sure in Aussie
Any brand of synthetic rubber adhesive will work as long as not water base.

if your joining different colour eva' grips together then i dont think that you will see the join, but the problem will be whether the join is going to flex the same as EVA does once its dry.
If your joining the same colour, put your hand in your pocket and get the right length maybe then sand it to the shape you want.
