Glue for Cork and Wood Inlays

Evening all. I have recently started doing my own grips as those of you (its many!) have helped me. Anyways I used the TITEBOND II glue for a small grip that is cork and cocobolo. As I was reaming it today to fit the rod, I noticed one of the cork to cork seams starting to seperate. A) What did I possibly do wrong(dried for plenty of time) and B) What can I do now?

As always, many thanks.

Scott

WOW, I use Titebond lll and have never had a cork to cork seam release. Cork to other materials, yes, so for them I use epoxy. Could there have been dust or other material on the cork surface?

If a cork to cork joint is coming loose, you almost surely did not get any glue in that area. Titebond I, II and III will easily and effectively bond cork like all get out, so the glue isn't likely to be at fault.

Titebond is fine for cork to wood, however, cocobolo can be difficult to glue with anything because it is so oily to begin with.

This is my first post here, but having been a woodworker for many years, when gluing anything, make sure you have squeeze out along your whole glue line, always and with whatever type of adhesive you're using, and when gluing up grips always spin the cork rings after pushing them together and then check to make sure there are no gaps.

Thanks Jon, I do spin them. But, as is suggested here, I must not have done a good job!

I used Titebond on a cork grip, all teh rings split apart on me. After wondering what the @#$%& hapened,Iread the directions which said that it dries in a couple of hours but full cure is 24. So I didn't wait long enough when I did mine,
