I am preparing to build my first fly rod in quite some time. The last one I built didn't have this issue. I have a Pac Bay Nickel Silver uplocking reel seat with a wood insert. Securing the wood insert on the rod isn't an issue, however, what is the best way to cement the the rear hardware to the wood insert? I was planning on using Threadmaster Ultimate Epoxy Gel, and I couldn't think of any reasons why that might not work, but I thought I had better ask before I get started. Also, should I glue the butt cap into the hardware. I bought a couple of these reel seats, and most of the butt caps snap in securely, but one of them is quite loose. Again, I can't think of a reason why I shouldn't use the epoxy, but there's a lot I don't know, too. Thanks.

Are you talking about epoxy rod building glue or epoxy finish? The Gel epoxy glue will work just fine. David Dosser Coshocton, OH Re: Epoxy for fly reel seat????

Select your butt cap or make it from a rubber chair leg, or piece of cork - and glue it on with epoxy as well.
