Hello every one I hope you are doing well.
I was woundering if one could use water based polly in place of CP to seal the edges on a rod decal? I ran out of CP and waiting for it to come in but I have these two rods I need done so I was hoping to be able to substitute the water based polly for it. Thanks in advance for any help on this. What type of decal? Waterslide or self adhesive?
I use a decal setting solution when applying water slide and make sure the edges of self adhesive are burnish down and never have had to use CP on decals when covering with 2 part thread finish. Ray Zarychta Glastonbury, CT Re: Decal Question

I am using self adheisive decals and have had the ends and seam lift when not sealed with CP. I should ge my pakage by thursday. I guess i will have to wait till then. I just never liked having wraped rods sitting around with out finish on them.
Thank for the reply RayZ www.reservoirdawgscustoms.com Re: Decal Question

If you are putting a pressure sensitive label on top of a coat of thread wrap epoxy, there should not be an issue of the edges coming up, with or without CP! The key is to be sure the epoxy undercoat is only a day or so old and that you burnish the edges of the label down thoroughly!
I build fly rods and use Decal Connection labels as above and have never had an edge show up or lift! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/24/2012 05:51PM by Phil Erickson. Re: Decal Question

The label is on over a coat of silver liquid leaf.
I have done it this way many times and the CP ia a prevenaitive measure as I have had edges lift in the past. Sure it could have been an oversite on my part (somthing I did wrong or forgot to do) But I have used CP on my decal edges ever since. I guess that you can say it gives me peace of mind. www.reservoirdawgscustoms.com Re: Decal Question

Hi John, I use the same method and have always used cp. I didnt really like the milky film so I tried the clear CP. Unfortunately I did not have the best of luck on my trial piece, it peeled up. I sure hop it was something i did wrong, because although it peeled, no milky film! "My biggest fear in life is that when I die, my wife will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it." I just wanted to let you all know that I ended up using Super Gle on the seam and it seams to have worked out well.
And wouldnt you know it my CP came in this afternoon just after I applied finish to the rod....LOL Any how thanks for the replies. www.reservoirdawgscustoms.com Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
