How many wraps of D thread will flex coat High Build penetrate? I ask because I am building a thread ramp that will need 8 continuous layers of D thread from blank to OD of reel seat.
Thanks Re: High build penetration

Another option is to use cork or foam arbor material to form a ramp. Glue the ramp in place and then just put a single thread wrap over the cork.
Good luck Roger Re: High build penetration

If you are using a foam arbor for the reel seat, you can just simply extend the arbor out the front of the reel seat to form the ramp.

Smart thinking Roger... easier, quicker..
On the question about how many layers, I cut open a recently wrapped guide. (not that i wanted to.) I had 3 wraps of size D very tightly wrapped and the bottom thread was, I wouldnt say dry but very close to. and that was a very very warm mix of threadmaster lite build so it couldnt get any thinner...i think the saturation and penetration everyone talks about is a little bit over rated... What do you expect. IF you wrap the thread tightly, and especially if you have three layers of thick thread, they finish would most likely not go through as much as you would like, but if you use the same amount of water as you did the guide wraps, you would probably have similar results. ------------------ Gabe (N.E.R.B.S Mascot) Re: High build penetration

Looks like 3 wraps and finish and then another 3 wraps and finish unless I can com up with another way. Re: High build penetration

Joe, seriously consider the foam arbor. You can split them and add after the rod is wrapped. Very easy to shape. Put a little 5 min epoxy on and smooth it out if needed. You can even tint the epoxy. One over wrap, a coat of finish, and it looks fantastic. Saves a lot of time, weight, and materials. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
