When using graphite arbors are most guys using them fuil length or can you cut them and make 4 seperate smaller arbors similar to making tape arbors. Thank you Scott Re: another graphite arbor question

Full length. I like the beige poly arbors, as opposed to the black graphite filled poly arbors.
They are so light, there is no reason to chop them up. Plus, if they are in separate pieces, it is extremely difficult to use the Flex Coat pilot bit and not make a mess of the arbors. Also remember, that you glue the arbor into the reel seat first, allow to dry, then ream, then glue onto the blank. Drew Re: another graphite arbor question

Some arbors are only an inch long or so. They intend for you to use two, or more, per reel seat. I find the full length ones offer a better value. You can cut them when needed, for gimbals and ramps, or leave them long, for reel seats and slick butts. The choice is yours. You don't need a full length arbor for a reel seat but it doesn't hurt.
With masking tape you know your work will be centered. For the best and quickest results, arbors require an investment in pilot bits and reamers. I suppose it depends on how large a gap you need to fill. I doubt anyone would pick masking tape as their grip of choice. It does not seem like it would be sensitive. It also doesn't seem durable. So why use it under your reel seat? Yes I have used them in the past with adequate results. I now feel graphite arbors are a better choice. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Re: another graphite arbor question

Scott,
It depends on the rod and the use of the arbor. When I find that there is a very large taper needed for the arbor, I find it much easier to cut the arbor into smaller lengths and drill or ream each section separately. If the blank has a very slight taper, then I tend to use the arbor full length. I have also used these arbors to fill up a predrilled handle which happened to have been drilled with a rather large inner diameter. Now and then, one can obtain grips that have been predrilled to a large diameter. In order to make effective use of the handle, using the poly arbors inside these large hole grips to make effective, light and solid handles. Take care REW Re: another graphite arbor question
