I've used it on larger guides. You must have little fingers if you use it on 3mm micros! ;)

I don't have any trouble at all with the micros. I tie a uni-knot around the blank with 4# mono. Hold the guide in the general location for it and slip the foot under the mono loop and then tighten it down, very snug. The guide can still be moved into position with the mono down tight, and you have plenty of room to start the wrap up and over the guide foot before carefully trimming the knot off with a straight razor blade. Nothin' to it, and a 1/8 lb. spool of cheap Ande or something similar will last years.

3" cable ties. They make them that small. Swampland has them.

And we use them to build micro rods - these are not normally available at craft or hardware stores.

Take a look and how much room is left for thread - cut block with Cuticle Knippers -

What about static testing If you have to move them ??
I like some kind of rubber band This way there is room to move the guide

If they are not tight enough when test casting put two turns of tape over them Then when wrapping take the tape off and wrap

Some custom rodbuilders build "MANY" micro rods on the SAME blanks using the SAME guide spacing -

Some custom builders write things down to save unneeded repetitive work.

When the proper guide spacing is known there is no reason to test cast.

Use the guide attachment procedure that produces the quickest build and results in quality build.

But

My understanding is that NO TWO blanks even of the same batch made at the same time will flex the same Human error or differences in building them

That is why I do any blank as the first Maybe that 1/4" moving several guides makes it cast JUST a Little Better ??? Doesn't take that long to set up
Then it makes me feel i have done the best I can

heck I can always just do any makers guides spacing and be done with it

I also use this concept, NO TWO Blanks are the same! I also think that guide placement on any blank should be done with the up-most precision. I feel its part of what is expected in building a rod for a customer, even if the customer isn't really concerned with the process you use! I read allot about guide placement in the beginning and the use of charts and standard measurements to help you get started in guide placement. I feel the best way to find the optimum position for guide placement is in the static and load test. The forum library also touched on the process that this is just a good place to get you started, final placement is in the static and load test. Like bill b. says; There are many builders with different ways to build a rod! Finding a process that works for you and improving on it is a good approach I think.
