Kokanee blank options?

In reading this forum, it seems that the recommended blanks for trolling for Kokanee with down riggers are slow and soft blanks 7.5' to 8', so would a lamiglas fiberglass fly rod blank work well for this application? Many threads regarding Kokanee are 2-9 years old...any newer blanks fit the bill?

Thanks,
Ken

Batson has blanks for Kokanee but they aren't that long: [batsonenterprises.com]

Another option might be this clearance blank at Utmost:

7'6" 4 WT. - PLUM (8) $18.00

I have built a number of kokonee rods of a St. Croix 3S80MLM2 blank with excellent results.

I just built a trout spin rod on the 3 wt yellow lami fly blank. It is soft and slow, and makes a notstalgic looking rod. The 5 wt would fit the bill nicely, but, they are not cheap.

Ken,
Lamiglas used to (and still may) build a production rod from the FL904. This was a very popular Kokanee rod in S. Oregon and N. California.

Anyone know what blank the seeker Kokanee Gold rods are based on? On the rod it says KG-7.

Ken, I believe the Seeker blank you are looking for is he SP702-1.

Others worthy of a look for this app are the Rainshadow RDR70L and RDR76L in one piece blanks. The Amtak Matrix AMF764 is a nice one in 2 piece. There are some options in Phenix blanks in the Mirage and Elixer lines if you're willing t to spend a little more.

Obviously a mix of glass and graphite choices there to suit your preference. I've built kokanee rods on each of those. You just have to exercise a little care since the constant downrigger loading on the graphite stuff.
