spool tension device question

I have one of the rod wrapping jigs that was sold by Dale Clemens - I bought it at the Rod Crafters 2001 seminar in Connecticut, from Dick French.
The spindles that hold the thread spools are too small in diameter and the spools wobble on the shaft and give very uneven tension. Is there such a thing as a very thin sleeve I could put on the shaft or do I need to have a bit larger shaft made? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Re: spool tension device question

Warren,
Easy. Find a piece of rod blank material, cut it to length, slip it on and you will be set. Or go to your local hobby shop or hardware store along with a thread spool and the tension device. Then, go over to the KB tubing display and pick up the necessary piece of brass, or aluminum, or copper tubing that you need to get the nice fit that you want on the spool. There is a very large selection in the sizes of this brass tubing. If you need more thickness, just select the next size to fit over the smaller piece of tubing and continue as needed until you get the fit that you want. Take care Roger Re: spool tension device question

Many thanks Roger - unfortunately - I haven't been building rods long enough to have any spare - odd pieces or old broken blanks - so, I will have to go the hardware store route. Looks like I will have to hit the yard sale circuit next summer and pick up a few old junker rods to have on hand - for a lot of reasons.
Best regards, Warren Re: spool tension device question

Warren,
If you want some old rods, you can go to the Salvation army, Good will store, or often your favorite sporting goods / fishing store has a barrel for oid rods that you can raid with permission from the store. Good luck Roger Re: spool tension device question

Many good hardware stores sell both metal and nylon sleeves in varying sizes. Ours are in nuts and bolts section. Re: spool tension device question
