Applying decal from Decal Connection

Just ordered some peel-and-stick decals from Decal Connection. The instructions was indicating that a layer of epoxy MUST be applied before the decal can be paste on the rod.

Wondering can we paste the decal straight to the rod instead and what's the difference with and without a layer of epoxy? Does anyone knows the answer?

Thanks.
Jim

The rod generally is not smooth enough to eliminate the possibility of having air under the label. Even though the air is very slight, it usually manifests itself as a haze. The epoxy creates a very smooth (glass like) surface , so that the decal is crystal clear. This is especially true of matte finish blanks.

Jim,

By putting down a layer of epoxy first, the edges of the decal will disappear magically.

I have done it both ways, but I had much better results with a layer of epoxy first. Either way I really didn't see the decal edges after applying finish, but the decal sticks better to the smooth finish of the epoxy.

I just applied my peel & stick decals to a rod last night. The blank was a matte gray, and I did put down a base wrap of black thread and did put one finish coat on before decal application. I'm glad I did, the base wrap made the decal really pop. Because the the base wrap was black and after applying the decal I noticed an ever slight edge line around the decal but no problem a black sharpie around the edges and presto line vanished. Magic just like the "Chia Pet". I believe in following the instructions when given to me. Even though we are men and don't follow instructions ( there must be a reason why some one took the time to write the instructions down). Decal Connection does the best job!
