Anyone have any tips for applying these. They seem pretty fragile and my past experience with abalone has been disastrous. The blank diameter is around 10mm. Re: Abalone fish decal from MH

I used a razor blade to separate the backing paper from the adhesive and place on the blank. I use a heat gun to soften the fish decal and then roll around the blank using a thread burnishing tool just like you would with the heat and roll abalone. I then wrap over the decal with thread until it cools. They wrap around the blanks easier than the regular heat and roll sheets do, but not quite as easily as the Micro Flex does. He is talking about the laser cut out fish decals. I don't think Kev does those yet. His stuff would be easier to cut, but that would be the difficult part for someone else to do possibly.
Just be careful taking the backer off and heat them up and apply. They crack MUCH less than larger pieces of abalone do and are much easier than using the heat and roll abalone. I do them all of the time and rarely have issues. Re: Abalone fish decal from MH

I got some abalone dolphin decals from Kevin Knox at the Expo last year. Heated them in water for five minutes, wrapped them with size D tread, ley it sit overnight, then put wraps on each end then put a coat of finish on. Put them (3) on a Gaff and they turned great. Re: Abalone fish decal from MH

I didn't care for them all that much. I tried one with a heat-gun (on low) and the fins on the fish cracked as I applied it to the blank. I tried another time in warm/hot water, it did better only cracked at the dorsal fin. Then I wrapped it with thread and let is sit over night. Came out pretty good.
