Rod inscription ??

When using gel pens to do an inscription on a rod, what is the best way to seal it before putting on finish.
Want to do something on a rod I'm building and in testing the gel never seems to dry and is easily rubbed off.
It also smears if I try to put a light coat of cp on to seal it.
What is the best way to write and seal when using one of these gel pen things? :)

Thanks all for your help.

Regards
Dave

Try Krylon Fixatif. Two light coats. It is available at most art supply or craft stores.

Thanks Chris
Not sure there is even an art supply store in Yellowknife. LOL
Or at least one that would carry it.
I'll have to have a look and see.

Try Canadian Tire in the paint department, Creative Basics, walmart in the craft section, Visual Effects Custom Framing, jj hobbies. :) If these places don't carry it ask who might.

Rather than using a gel pen, I have been using Testors model metallic paint for years.
Then, we put it on with a nib and quill lettering pen. Let dry for 30 minutes and apply the finish. No smearing.

Take care

Testor's metalics (gold, siver ,aluminum, copper) seem to work best with nib pens.

Any India ink products with nibs of the right size and shape will work very well, just write it, let it dry, and cover with rod finish. Just get rid of the gel pens and use nibs withi India ink or the products others have mentioned.
