It is sad for me to announce that Bernie Cohen passed away last night after a long battle with cancer. All in the rod building community that were privilege to know him my deepest sympathy goes out to you. He was a true gentle man and rod builder extraordinaire. We will all miss him. I'm sorry to hear that Bernie has passed. I met him in Minneapolis a few years back and was impressed with his candor. He was a true gentleman and one of a kind, he will be missed and my condolences go out to his family. Re: A Great One Has Passed

His death came as a bit of a shock to me because he'd written recently to tell me that he was free of cancer. He said he was weak, but feeling good and was making plans to attend the Expo.

I had a lump in my throat thinking it was Bernie as soon as I saw that Al had posted this topic. A finer craftsman and gentleman there never was. He'll be sorely missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing him. Re: A Great One Has Passed

I had the pleasure of meeting Bernie at my first NERB gathering in Long Island back in 2007 i beleive. At Trophy Tackle sponsored by Billy V. Bernie gave me a hands on tutorial on inlays that day and took his time to explain in details until I was ok with his instructions. He will be missed and we will keep him in our prayers R.I.P. Bernie. I will post a picture of Bernie with his great work on inlays in the misc section of the photo page.

I think the 700+ page views here say it all ........ this was Bernie's home away from home. He was deeply admired by the builders here and all were touched by his friendliness and willingness to help the users here. Re: A Great One Has Passed

Bernie`s passion and openness to sharing is the basis behind the NERBS. He will be greatly missed. He is responsible for an uncountable amount of people who have furthered themselves beyond just building a fishing rod but to creating a piece of art. His spirit will live on with all those he touched. Freddwhy (Rapt-Ryte) Re: A Great One Has Passed
