The right paint/clear coat for 2 e-glass shore rods I'm rebuilding

Aloha,
I just stripped one of two 13' shore fishing rods and now I need to paint and seal the rods before I begin wrapping. My father has been building rods for the past 40+ years, but this is something new. I recently started wrapping rods and love it. These two shore fishing rodsa belong to my friends father. They are both sabers and are one piece.
I was told that saber only made 10' e-glass blanks so it looks like whoever built these added an additional 3-4' and glassed them together.
As I mentioned in the beginning, I need to know what the best product is that I can apply or have applied to protect and bring back the color of these two blanks.
Blank #1 is a two-tone with a natural honey color on top and a dark amber on the bottom half. I want to paint the bottom half and clear coat the top to retain the natural color.
Blank #2 is all natural honey colored and I want to keep it all natural with clear coat.
I am on the island of Oahu and if I've asked 5 different people/businesses, I've got 5 different answers. I
Figured I would get the answer I needed from the local fiberglass company which appeared to have everything I needed according to their showroom, but apparently not.
So if anyone here can help me, I would appreciate your assistance.
BTW-I am new here and this is my first post. I will try and get my point across a lot quicker in future posts.
Aloha,
Scott Bolter

Hi Scott,
I get my local panel beater to do mine with colour and or clears. It's two part polurethane product and has held up well so far, had about 10 rods done. The dark colour on your two tone blank may come back to very close to original with just clears. If your going to do it yourself remeber that the two pack is nasty stuff and you'll need a good respirator with the right filters.

By far the best results I've had, were obtained at a local Chevy dealer. I have had several graphite blanks painted with white bumper cover paint. The bumper paint has a flex agent additive that will help the paint bend with the blank. The finish is extremely durable. I used one for Redfish down in Louisiana last week and had a light IM6 rod nearly bent double on several good fish, and there's not a mark on it.

Thanks so far. I appreciate all the good tips. Guess I was hoping for a easy rattle can remedy to my inquiry. I found automobile grade paint at home depot and thought that may be the answer. Got it in gloss black and clear. Any reason I shouldn't use this?

G'Day Scott If you are after a spray pack do a search for Alsa they have all kinds of specialty spray packs .I have used plain auto paint with a flex additive & a clear also with the additive added & using an air brush with good results .

Scott, I use Krylon spray for a few coats followed with a few coats of Krylon clear. Seems to work well, but I also coat the entire rod with ProKote when putting on the final coat of epoxy after everything is wrapped. From what I can tell this works fine, but the Krylon left uncoated with ProKote would not hold up well. I think if you were to want to only epoxy coat the wrapped areas then the better paints, automotive, etc. mentioned above would definitely be the way to go.

After the final coat of Krylon clear has dried, I wrap the rod.

Ive done a couple rods the way I described and havent heard of any issues so far.
