I've been looking at the encapsulated foregrips pictured in the new Rodmaker I just received. I really like the look of these foregrips. I don't have the magazine in front of me, but I'm looking at a supplier calalog that has the same foregrips listed. My question is : Does anyone know if these are solid wood, or are they PVC (or something similar) with wood grain paper/plastic covering? The inside is white. Re: Encapsulated Foregrips

Dwayne, I know of several rodbuilders, including myself, who have encapsulated images or decals into the foregrips that were turned on a wood lathe. The wood I have used include oak, tamarack, ash. Most of the highly grained woods should work here. The finish is with two part epoxy and turned as you would a butt wind. It takes at least 2, 3 , or 4 coats to finish the process and get the desired clear and smooth coating. Look back a few posts, I believe there are several wood worker rodbuilders or suppliers of this type of finished foregrip. They are a process that takes time and well worth the look on a custom rod. As for what to put into the inlay? I've seen fish hat pins, fish decals, and the like. We have even used scanned pictures of a family pet and converted this into a water slide decal placed on the wood and finished. It's unique and well appreciated as a custom piece for the customer. The ideas of what can be inlayed is almost limitless, as long as it fits within the dimensions of the wood piece. even 3 D such as hat pins can be inlayed after carving in a spot for them. Thanks Rich, They're very nice looking and something you don't see everyday. The one's pictured in the calalogs are white on the inside, thats why I asked if they were (All) wood. Re: Encapsulated Foregrips

They are real wood, sleeved with a thin plastic insert for mounting to your rod. Jesse Buky at J&B rods, www.amazingfishingrods.com, is the maker. Mud Hole and Merrick Tackle both carry Mr. Buky's foregrips and help you with selecting the right size for your rod. ........................ Re: Encapsulated Foregrips
