Finish on Red Cedar grips

Just looking for opinions on what type of finish will be well suited for my Red Cedar wood grips. I usually use tru oil. Which would be the best:
1) Tru oil
2)perma gloss
3)classic clear coat

Looking for different opinions.Thanks, Jerry

Either of the first two - they're tailor made for use on wood. The third one is not.

Tru-Oil can be used to build a beautiful, deep finish. But it will take several coats. The finish can be renewed periodically if need be.

PermaGloss can do it in about two, and will never yellow, scratch nor chip.

I agree with Tom, you cant go wrong with Tru-Oil, or PermaGloss.
Those are my Favorites for wood finishes, Third choice would be a CA finish.

I use each and get good results, prefer Permagloss turning at about 4 RPM. I use 3 coats

the first two are fine for finishing woods. your choice of which depends on the look you are trying to get. the permagloss will give a very hard, durable, and clear glossy finish. depending on how many coats of tru oil you can get a softer or glossy finish. my experience with rod finishes and woods have not turned out well. you also have to take into account the oils in woods which give epoxies fits

John and Tom I respect your opinioins greatly. But A rod builder in Rochester MN uses classic coat on handles and fore grip exclusivley. On red cedar and butternut. Now He gave me some wood and I have been turning striper plugs. Now They have to be sealed with boiled linseed oil, mineral spirits 60/40. Left week to dry. 2 coats of classic coat turned out nice. Place pics on misc. board. They have held up well. Bill
