Help me pick a Lamiglas blank

Hey guys. I'm looking to get a blank and have a builder do a custom for me, or buy it pre built from Lamiglas. I'm thinking of trying Lamiglas I've been wanting to try one of their blanks for a long time. I'm mainly a Loomis guy; not really because of any loyalty to the company, which is now basically Shimano, but because everytime I try another rod manufacturer I don't get that same precision sensitivity...you know where you can feel a fish swimming at you in deep water, rocks vs gravel sand vs mud etc... I recently bought production built Phenix and it's a beautiful rod and is very light; doing the tap test it felt more sensitive than my Loomis's but it didn't translate when fishing. I can barely distinguish pick ups from weeds, rocks, etc...and when a fish is hooked up it just isn't as fun because I can't feel every head turn of the bass...anyone else notice this? To me my GL3's are even at least 25% more sensitive than my Phenix.
Thus I'm trying a Lamiglas rod. I'm planning on either building or purchasing outright, that's still in the air. But on to the question: I plan on using this mainly for throwing 1/4 ounce football jigs with uncle josh #11 pork trailers, and also some 3/16 ounce jigs and very rarely 5/16 ounce jigs. Outside of jigging I want to use it to throw tubes, shakyheads, and other finesse presentations. Another reason I'm looking at Lamiglas is I'm wanting a rod with more flex throughout the mid section to help protect my fluorocarbon line (10-12 pound test seaguar). I still want a fast rod just one that doesn't lock completely down like my phenix 7 ft ultra mbx medium heavy rod, which has a similar action to a Loomis IMX 843. So which Lamiglas blank? I basically have it down to the IMP 844 (IM 700 popping blank) and the DTIMC 84M (IM 700 casting blank) mainly because the published weight of the blanks and the recommended uses from their site are similar to how I plan to use them, but Lamiglas is known for using the same blanks in many different rods. Also I can buy these two blanks in already built rods if I choose to. Also does anyone know how the sensitivity of IM 700 material compares to Loomis IMX or GL3, or even the new bass blended rods? And if anyone has experience how does IM 700 compare to Lamiglas XMG blanks? Thanks, Sam Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/25/2011 12:55AM by Sam Moore. Re: Help me pick a Lamiglas blank

I can't compare the IM700 to the XMG, but I love the XMG LP844. I use it for the same presentation that you listed in there and it works well. Crazy that you didn't like the UMBX, or I wonder how much their build compromises the blank, those UMBX's are some of the best blanks available, IMO. Re: Help me pick a Lamiglas blank

Sam,
call mudhole and speak with either Bob or Todd. They represent an EXCEPTIONAL knowledge base ( as well as design) of Lamiglass. Tom Re: Help me pick a Lamiglas blank

I really like my XMG LP844 rods. I can't imagine anyone not being impressed with one. Re: Help me pick a Lamiglas blank

If you're a big fan of Loomis, take a look a the North Fork Composites blanks. It's Gary's new company.
