I'm looking to build on a slow action, two piece, 11' - 12' blank , #20 -#30 line-rated, for fishing bait in the surf. Apparently E-glass blanks fitting this description are no longer available, and graphite blanks tend to be so fast they separate the bait from the hook in all but the gentlest cast. A two piece blank is a compromise but a practical necessity. Any suggestions for locating such a blank ? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/16/2011 08:23PM by Phil Ewanicki. Re: live bait surf blank

The Lamiglas SB 136 2M (3 t0 5 ounces) and SB 136 3M (4 to 8 ounces) are fiberglass and may be E-glass. You may want to check with Lamiglas for verification. Line not listed.
There is a Triflex CSB 126 1M that is 10' 6" rated for 20 # mono and 1 to 4 ounces. As I understand it, the tip is either fiberglass or fiberglass/graphite composite. The handle is a fiberglass/graphite composite. The above are one piece blanks. The GSB 156 2M is two piece graphite with a mono rating of 25#. Although the lure rating is 3 to 5 ounces, experience shows it is best cast with a total load of 4 ounces. As with most other blanks in the GSB series, the action is more moderate to moderate-fast. There are two other options. A controlled fishing pendulum cast provides a longer casting period from the start of the cast to release. A slow build up in speed during the cast can provide good distance without destroying the bait. The other option is to learn slide bait techniques. Although intended for use with large baits, it is readily adaptable for smaller equipment and bait. After understanding slide bait techniques, I would recommend learning about the Austrailian Slide. Although it was originally developed in Maui, it found its way to Australia. It has returned to Hawaii as something new. The Australian slide functions to permit live bait to swim only in the direction of the sinker. Hope this helps, Don Don Becker Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/16/2011 08:53PM by Donald Becker. Talon B132 in a VI plus and not the ITM would be another i would suggest. It has a med /fast action that works well with fishing eels or snag and drop for Bunker. if it's got to be glass then i would suggest the Seeker SU line. Re: live bait surf blank

Or you could look at the Batson's Rainshadow SUR series. All with RX6, RX7 graphite and E-glass blend. 2 piece with a great ferrule design. They are all a moderate-fast action blank. Re: live bait surf blank

And if you can go a little shorter, consider the Batson "BP" seies.
They go up to 10 1/2', 12-30# line, 3/4 to 3 oz lure. Best wishes, Ron Schneider Schneider's Rod Shop Mountain Home, Arkansas [www.schneidersrods.com] mtnron40@yahoo.com 870-424-3381 Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
