I just want to say that after I cleaned my rod lathe it looks a lot better, and the carriage slides alot smoother, after scraping all the epoxy that fell on the tracks, and those little wheels on the rod rest I oiled and they turn alot smoother now, I think I will enjoy building on it now a lot more better since i took the time and cleaned it up, LOL! I must of had a pound of epoxy all up and down the tracks of the lathe, Tight lines ya all! Re: just got done cleaning my rod lathe

I've been oiling those little wheels since I started with this rod lathe, I use the oil that I oil my reels with, no problems so far, 4they spin more freely. Re: just got done cleaning my rod lathe

I use a heat gun to warm epoxy drops and pop them off with a Popsicle stick. _________________________________________ "Angling is extremely time consuming. That's sort of the whole point." - Thomas McGuane Re: just got done cleaning my rod lathe

okay, that was more of a ? than a comment. just seemed odd to put oil were it could get somewhere it should not be. i use a cpw hand wrapper so do not have a problem with sticky rollers yet

I have skate board bearings on my wrappers, and as Lorenzo does, I oil the bearings from time to time.
After I oil the bearings and use paper towel to wipe off the oil I put an old blank in the lathe and turn it at high speed for 5 minutes to insure that any oil that might spin out, spins out, during the cleaning phase. Whenever I use finish on my power wrapper, I take pieces of cardboard - cut to the width of the wrapper bed, and long enough to be a nice fit between the rod rests. I have a variety of cardboard to accommodate the different spacing of rod rests for different rods. If I do happen to get any epoxy on the bed - which is aluminum and don't see it until it has cured - I simply take a single edged razor blade, and pop it off of the bed. The epoxy cleans up very easily. But, cardboard is even better because I don't care if drips happen to get on the cardboard. As with anything, it is always a good idea to do maintenance on equipment from time to time. Take care Roger Re: just got done cleaning my rod lathe

I always lay down a paper towel. Handy to have if you have an accident or get epoxy on your hands lol. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
