I scuffed up an old rod blank, and painted it with krylon fusion paint. Has anyone used this product. Does anyone know if this paint will flake off? Thanks in advance Re: painting blank Questions

I dont have a lot of experience but I have painted a few blanks with fusion paint. Works well, just be sure that you put a good clear over it after the paint has cured a few days. You should be aware that painting a blank will probably void any warranty the blank may have. Rufus Port Saint Lucie, FL Re: painting blank Questions

Rufus is right, make sure you get a few good coats of clear on it after the base is on it. I have painted a few with Krylon and have been pleased with the results Re: painting blank Questions

What would be a good clear coat? Does Krylon make one? Re: painting blank Questions

well if your into painting and have a spray gun set up. ( I know its a little hardcore) But i have used Emron with some thinner to reduce weight. Its bulletproof paint that can withstand any wear and tear. Its almost like a marine coat, but with the thinner to help with the weight reduction, its perfect. Ive done 2 rods in it and it only added a couple grams. If its a rod that your not to concerned with a little more weight, give it a try. Re: painting blank Questions

Richard, I have used Minwax polyurethane fast dry, on most of the blanks I build that aren't glossy and if I have the desire to make em that way. It works wonderful! Re: painting blank Questions

Lumiseal will give you a good , durable finish but it is difficult to apply.
Duplicolor makes a good spray on clear coat.....you can find it in your local auto parts store. Nod to Bill Boetcher on the Duplicolor thing. Re: painting blank Questions

Like i have said The paint let dry for say 5 days In a heated room
Then a - quick - coat of permagloss or lumiseal over maybe several coats about an hour apart let that dry about 5 to 7 days Nice hard finish Unless you want to go automotive clears Bill - willierods.com Re: painting blank Questions

Do a search for painting rod blanks, there should be a ton of info. Make sure you put in "All Dates"! The fusion will work fine but isn't durable for the most part. You should clear it but most clears in a spray can will end up flaking after time and most isn't very scuff resistant!! Re: painting blank Questions

Heya Paul P.
Have you run across this thread in your searches on the forum? [rodbuilding.org] I am not sure if anyone else has had a chance to try this application method. I was in hopes for some feed back if any one has ? Rick H. rwheil@msn.com Website [www.facebook.com] [home.comcast.net] Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
