a little off rod topic, topic?

I am wondering , I just got a new Quantum smoke reel, and I think it needs some oiling on the roller bearings, I have Qauntum Hot Sauce oil but when I looked it does'nt look like it has that Hot Sauce on the bearings, would it be alright if I just put some Hot Sauce on the bearings , or should I clean the oil that it already has and then reoil the bearings?

You say roller bearing so I have to ask. There is an anti-reverse bearing (to keep the handle from turning backwards) and that should not be oiled.

Clean the other bearings with carb/brake cleaner, air dry, and add your oil of choice.

Russell, I have looked at the assembly view of all the parts and don't see a anti-reverse bearing listed, can you tell me where it would be or if there is another name for it? Thank you, for the info, i just cannot find that anti reverse bearing,I sure don't want to accidently oil that one.

Anit-reverse bearing will be located on top of the drag stack and underneath the star drag. It is not like the other bearings in the reel although it is often given credit as an additional bearing (i.e, 7 bearing system, 8 bearing, etc.) The shaft for the handle goes through it and it is usually pressed into the side plate to become an integral part of the side plate. Don't oil it . It should have come with enough grease to last a lifetime. When using oil on other roller bearings, don't use much. A drop is all that is needed. Many a reel has been hosed up by too much oil and grease.
