I have been asked to refurbish two vintage glass rods, both of which have been wrapped with a type of thread that I am not familiar with. They appear to be colored single strand nylon with a diameter of 0.009 inches. If anyone knows anything about this thread I would appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks, Brad Clawson Re: Wrapping thread of vintage fiberglass rods

Brad, Believe it or not but that single strand nylon thread might actually be dyed monofiloment. I have had rods in with the same characteristics and have found them to be wrapped with either dyed or painted over mono.In a lot of cases these wrappings would bleed its tint onto the blank. All of these rods were inexpensively made over seas I would say in the 60's. If you could post a picture it would help. Dennis J. Danku (Sayreville,NJ) Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
