mortising reel seats

Hi everyone, Recently purchased a bull nose bit to mortise reel seats. I have just a plain plunger router. I am trying to figure out a jig to use without having to go out and get a router table. Any suggestion or even pictures of some setup's. Thank you in advance

Don't even think about doing something like that without a router table. You can easily build one if you think about it some. As a professional finish carpenter, I would not dream about doing something like that without a router table. JMHO!

I made up my own router table/jig setup using a trim router I picked up from Harbor Freight.

The table is made out of MDF and set up stationary, and the jig is an adjustable sled that carries a 3/8 rod to mount the insert on.
Here are a few pics, but you can review all of them in my gallery:

Purchase or build the router table.

Thanks guys, The only issue i have is, i have to use a really thin wood to make the table or the bit won't stick out far enough. Can i move the bit out of the chuck a bit more, or will it affect the perfomance.

Look here:

or here:

for option on mounting a router to a table. By replacing the existing router base plate, and by mounting to the top of the table, you are not losing any bit depth.

Gabriele, I used my router to inlet the table where the router mounts...this gives me plenty of throw for adjustment of the depth.
That being said, yes, you can extend your router bit some, although the collets needs enough of a bite on the bit to hold it tight, so not TOO far.
