Anybody have any info on preping the EVA for it to take the epoxy without getting the air bubbles. I am hoping to counter sink the pin and epoxy over it. I thought I had seen this before but I can't find any help on books or on line. I can't even find the pictures I remember seeing a few years back.
Thanks Re: pewter pin inlay on EVA

Here is a couple of photos: [www.rodbuilding.org]
Have not done one myself but look forward to trying it on on an upcoming rod. Re: pewter pin inlay on EVA

I would dig out the EVA to fit the pin. Put a REALLY thin later of finish on the dub out part, let it dry. glue pin and pour in bubble free mixed finish (I'd mix it and heat it but i'll get flamed by everyone here, lol). EVA and epoxy usually cause bubbles, so the first coat is kind of a barrier to prevent that. I have no clue if what I posted works, I'd test it out and see without gluing the pin in there how bubble free you can get it. Re: pewter pin inlay on EVA

I've had better luck encapsulating the pin in epoxy and then trimming to match the EVA cut out and epoxying the pin into the EVA. Kinda like this butt cap: [www.rodbuilding.org]
