feather inlay fly rod

I want to attempt my first feather inlay on a 9' 5wt. fly rod. The blank is Batson RX7 and its glossy green. I know nothing about feathers, I don't tie flies yet. But I have a good friend who is retired and sells his flies at a local farmer's market. This means easy access all kinds of feathers, he has an overwhelming selection of fly tying stuff. Mr. Kirkman how hard was the Grizzly hackle inlay you posted? What would I need besides Grizzly hackle, cp, and epoxy. Lots of time I would imagine. Do you guys have any suggestions for a beginner who has plenty of time and patience?

Dean,
Some of the easiest feathers to start out with are Pheasant feathers, they lay down on the rod and work great and look good also. I have made several fly rods and have different fly images on them . Really dresses up a fly rod. Good luck with your inlays.

That's all you need and some practice of course. I prefer to put my feather inlays on a wrap. Put a light coat of cp down, lay the feather down, brush more cp on the feather and use the brush to form the feather how I want it.....just my way and it works for me, I am sure everyone has their own way.
