I just tried a closed wrap with Gudebrod metallic size A thread. Even though I tried to keep the wrap somewhat tight the threads traveled all over the place. I got about 30 threads on and finally gave up. I cut all the threads off and started over with regular size A. Suggestions would be appreciated.

I've only done a couple with all metallic but I found pack early and often. Seems to help for me.

u can pack all the metalic threads but it is a pain in the ass jusk keep packing until they r all tight

It is not impossible - but close.
I am not sure that it is worth the effort to use this material for the type wrapping you are doing. It is up to you to make the decision.
I tried a few times, but finally decided that I simply would no longer do it. I found that the final result - although nice - did not justify the extra work and time required for the desired effect.

I did about half of the wrap last night with regular Gudebrod size A. Shortly after I started I came to the conclusion that regular is the way to go and all metallic is just not worth the time and effort. Metallic has it's place in adding nice touches and effects - at least on my bench. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

These types of wraps aren't impossible, justs take a little more effort than most other wraps.

I've done quite a few closed wraps with metallics and there are just a few tricks to making them work. Start laying your threads down as tight as possible. I usually go 4-6 passes before packing. Now here's the trick. After you get your 4-6 passes done, wrap all area's that you are going to pack with size D thread as tight as possible. Now pack everything as tight as you can against the "D" sized thread. After you remove the D sized thread make your next pass or passes as tight as possible to "lock" in the previous threads. Repeat every 4-6 passes and you should be fine.

If you put a base wrap down then your thread wont travel all over. look at the rods I built most of them are matlic.
