Ok this may be a long story but bear with me.
our Knight of Columbus Council every year takes out the residents of the local assisted living facility for a fishing outing. we take them to a members property that has several ponds and it's a day of getting them out in the sunshine, some fishing and a BBQ. In the past we have relied on members to supply rods. This year we came up short. So I thought of this coming winter of building up maybe 10 rods for this event. I'm looking for suggestions for inexpensive blanks. right now we are using old Zebco and some other spinning reels as it's mostly panfish and some small Bass. Also since I build mostly fly rods I may need someone to check over my parts list to make sure I get everything right. Thanks Re: blanks assisted living project

This may be heresy, but I consider using custom rods for this event a bit of overkill.
Consider accumulating functional rods and reels through craigslist, freecycle or garage sales/ Goodwills. They will be much cheaper and just as fun for the occasional fisher person. A cheap custom rod may cost $15 for the blank, $5 for handle, $5 for guides - for a total of $25. You may want to use you rod building talents to raise money for your Council by raffling rods or selling rods. Rick Re: blanks assisted living project

We have a fishing web site here in CT where I solict old rods, fix them up, then donate them to our state program that teaches residents all about fishing (mostly youngsters). Site members have been very generous. Re: blanks assisted living project

call Mudhole, they may be able to set you up with some inexpensive kits.
By the way, thanks for what you're doing. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
